Description
Coordinates and performs a variety of administrative tasks in support of the City's recreation programs and services; assists in coordinating recreation programming and events; responds to public inquiries regarding recreation programs and services; provides customer service to league or recreation participants and facility patrons; and performs other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties
Provides clerical support in relation to assigned recreation programming, athletic leagues, park events and/or facility operations. Responds to public inquiries regarding the City's recreation programs, services, and facilities; assists in addressing and resolving participant complaints as required. Performs data entry; updates and maintains departmental records, lists, calendars, and databases; monitors data for accuracy and completeness; performs necessary data corrections. Depending on area of assignment prepares registration materials and information, including registration packets, invitations, rosters, flyers, brochures or other documents. Organizes and coordinates local, state and national tournaments. Reconciles monies for recreation fees; prepares daily bank deposits; monitors revenue intake for area of assignment; generates and coordinates monthly client invoicing, league registrations or miscellaneous income. Compiles data; prepares/generates various types of departmental reports and documentation. Provides customer service and assistance to recreation facility patrons, league participants or event attendees; may process new memberships, provide facility orientation or instruct individuals in the use of fitness equipment. Supervises assigned recreational activities, leagues, tournaments or events; sets up equipment required for games and sports practices. Participates in the delivery of assigned recreation programming; provides homework and computer lab assistance; organizes field trips; picks up and transports children from school. Provides assistance in planning, organizing, and implementing various types of recreation activities and special events hosted by the City; coordinates participant registration. Depending on area of assignment may assist in maintaining recreation facilities and equipment; conducts a variety of custodial tasks; sweeps and mops floors; vacuums carpets; performs dusting; empties trash; changes light bulbs. Provides assistance in ensuring the City's recreation facilities are safely and properly maintained for use by the public. Depending on area of assignment may monitor and identify maintenance requirements; reports and coordinates the repair of facilities and equipment; performs minor maintenance work as assigned. Coordinates the purchase of office, program, and/or facility supplies; monitors and maintains supply inventories. Provides assistance in training departmental staff and/or supervising the work activities of subordinate recreation personnel as required. Depending on area of assignment will monitor and ensure the City's indoor swimming pool facilities are safely and properly maintained for use and enjoyment by the public; check pool chemical levels. Depending on area of assignment supervises, trains, evaluates the performance of assigned personnel; monitors and ensures staff compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Depending on area of assignment serves as Lifeguard; supervises the activities of swimmers; responds to emergency situations; administers First Aid and/or CPR to include the use of an AED as required. Depending on area of assignment attends and participates in in-service training and/or other types of meetings. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent, and two years clerical/customer service experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. First Aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) ISC Certifications are required within one year of employment. If assigned to Paula Martin Jones indoor pool: Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard Training and First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certifications issued by the American Red Cross. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
Work is performed in and around municipal recreation facilities. Subject to sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, and lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Exposure to variable weather conditions, water, machinery with moving parts, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids, and potentially irate members of the public is involved.
